The number of young Internet addicts in China soared to 24 million last year as the world's largest web population exploded, according to a survey carried by state media Wednesday.

The number of young addicts almost doubled from 2005 and now accounts for one in seven young Internet users, according to the poll conducted by the China Youth Association for Network Development.

Now the recession has hit job markets the world over, and for young graduates job hunting has never been tougher. But with job prospects bleak at home, some young foreigners are looking at a move to China as a possible solution to the employment crunch.

Young people from around the world have long flocked to the US to study and pursue their careers,and in 2008, about 80-thousand Chinese students were studying on an American visa in the US. But it's not all one way traffic. A recent trend has seen more and more young Americans coming to China.

Amid the global financial crisis and high unemployment back home, more and more American graduates are looking to China as a land of opportunity.

The city of Shenzhen in southern China is one of China's key centers for light manufacturing. It's in this city, just across the border from Hong Kong, that major high-tech companies, both Chinese and foreign, manufacture the electronic products that consumers the world over clamor for. But in recent months the city's biggest employer has hit the headlines for quite another reason - the disturbing number of suicides amongst its young workforce.

Amongst the thousands of young Chinese soldiers and civilian volunteers is one who could be the grandfather of many.
