The Hollywood blockbuster Avatar is already the second-highest grossing movie worldwide. And despite the high ticket prices in China, the 3D attraction of feeling that you're right there among the action is pulling audiences back to the theaters.

Box office takings are only updated weekly here in China, but the movie is on course to become China’s highest ever grossing movie any day now, despite being released just two weeks ago.

An epic Hollywood disaster movie which tells of humanity's narrow escape from extinction is proving a major hit here in China. And some feel the popularity of the movie is due in no small part to the role China plays in the movie's plot.

Watching the latest movie on your computer just days after its released in theaters is an advantage China has had for years. Vendors are on city street corners throughout the cities with boxes filled with DVDs shot in theaters with a hand-held movie camera. But as Katie Fischer reports, efforts continue to put an end to pilfering for mass entertainment.

26 years ago, the movie Red Dawn hit theaters around America.  The scenario put forward in the film was one that was front and center in the minds of a population caught up in a cold war mindset: Soviet forces attempting to take over the country, starting with the invasion of a small Midwest town.  
    
The movie starred Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen as two members of a teenage insurgency who take up arms against the Soviets, and went on to become a cheesy cult classic.  26 years on, Hollywood is remaking the movie, but with the Soviet Union no longer around, the makers of the film had to find another enemy capable of taking the place of America's former favorite bogeyman.

I feel fine about the advertisements. There are some in the movie, but I think I can accept them. I feel that this movie is not as touching as I imagined it would be. It’s not a movie that can really make you cry, which is how it was promoted. There are actually quite a lot of advertisements in the movie. But all in all, it’s a good movie that’s close to our lives. I think it’s a good movie that can inspire people a lot. We can learn a lot from the movie and know more about how people in earthquake disaster areas survive. That way we can do more to help the people there.
