Novelist Sets Gold Standard
Oct 4, 2010
Han Han: blogger, race car driver, magazine editor, and pundit on just about everything, is probably China's best known writer of the 80's generation. His new book "1988" was released earlier this month. A special limited edition of just 100 copies, is being sold at a price of 988 yuan – around $150 – and has a gold strip inserted on the last page. And arguments over whether this is simply a sales stunt, a subtle Han Han commentary on Chinese society - or something else have been raging. So what do ordinary people think about this novel approach to selling books. We went out on the streets of Beijing to find out.
