China's Communist Party has released new restrictions for so-called "naked officials". These are civil servants – government workers – who have basically transferred all their assets or those with family members who have moved abroad, according to a report Monday. The state-run China Daily reported that the new restrictions were issued as part of a broader effort to crack down on corruption. The new rules dictate that officials with children and spouses who have moved outside the country must disclose the whereabouts of family members, the report said.

Shorter Working Day

Recently, the government of Ningbo, a city in Zhejiang province, announced a change in working hours for civil servants. The new work schedule will be from 9:00 to 12:00 in the morning and from 2:00 to 5:30 in the afternoon, giving them a six and a half hour working day.

That total is 30 minutes shorter than before the new rules. Officials say the move is aimed at easing rush hour traffic. The cut in working hours mimics other provinces such as Guangdong, Fujian, and Hebei.

A survey by information website, infzm.com carried out a poll asking people their opinion on the shorter work hours for these public servants. Seventy-six per cent of the respondents said shortening the working day shows the current workload of public servants is not enough, and so there should be staff reductions.
New Anti-corruption Rules

China issued a new anti-corruption regulation Sunday to require officials to report changes in their marital status, the whereabouts of their spouses and children if they have moved abroad, personal incomes, housing as well as their family's investments. The new regulation was issued by the General Office of China's State Council and the General Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee. The regulation defines "officials" as those leaders holding official ranks of and above county level in government agencies, democratic parties, public institutions, state owned enterprises and state holding enterprises.
Trouble In The Skies

In the past few decades China’s aviation industry has grown to become one of the largest in the world. Yet it has continued to be tainted by scandal. Most recently the industry was left shaken after a large number of top officials from the Civil Aviation Administration of China and several major State-owned airlines were arrested or placed under investigation for corruption. 35 Chinese civil servants were recently fired after they were found to be chatting online and watching movies during office hours. The sackings were announced by a government supervision bureau in the southern city of Guangzhou.

As more and more office workers spend time on the net, the temptation to chat online grows - and the line between personal and work use of the computer can become difficult to define.
