As the cleanup operation in earthquake devastated Haiti continues, there's controversy here following the news that a large chunk of donations for the Sichuan quake in 2008 have been "misused."
Billions of dollars poured into the province following the quake, which killed more than 80,000 people and destroyed numerous towns and villages. The government planned to spend around 39 billion dollars rebuilding the province.
But according to the National Audit Office, as much as 34 million dollars have been wrongly used. Fourteen projects were illegally contracted out and the quality of some of the buildings hasn't met national requirements.
