The question of whether Chinese men should be purchasing wives form Vietnam has come into the spotlight after a Nanjing man surnamed Dai did just that last week. Dai has been grabbing the spotlight since he posted an advertisement looking for an "obedient wife" from Vietnam.
He had posted photographs and information about himself on the internet. He offered a 700 Dollar special tour that he would lead, along with 5,000 Dollar special tour plus marriage procedure documents after returning to China.
His ad read he wanted a woman who was "Not greedy, not lazy, not too open, not arrogant, not money-worshiping, is young, pretty, hard-working, kind-hearted, and the key is obedient."
For a period of time in 2007 and 2008, scandals involving the quality of imported Chinese products dominated the news in the United States. Although the "Made in China" brand took a hit, for many in the U.S. the scandals have faded into memory. Consumers in China, however, have had to deal with a seemingly never-ending series of revelations. The food industry has been especially hard hit. Right after came the Olympics came tainted milk, then fake eggs, and now comes word that a brand of popular rice may not be all it claims to be.
